Why Am I Addicted to Watching Porn?

If you are reading this, it is most likely because you have tried every way you can to stop watching porn, and have been unsuccessful. The answer to why you are addicted is simple, but very hard to accept because it is contrary to what you have been taught, and contrary to what you want to believe about yourself. Before you can be saved from this addiction, you must first understand why you need saving.

I’m a Good Person

The first step to understanding why we keep doing the things we don’t want to do, is accepting who we are. Our hearts are very wicked and misleading. Genesis 6:5 says that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart is only evil all the time. Contrary to popular belief, no one has a good heart. In fact, Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart is deceitful, and Psalms 14 tell us that there is no one who does good, not even one. Romans 3:23 also tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Simply put, addiction to watching porn is sin, and we are all sinners. All wrongdoing is sin. Wrongdoing is anything contrary to the Word of God. We as humans, do not set the rules, God does. If you’re really honest with yourself, you can recall all the times you’ve had evil thoughts – either about yourself or someone else. We all have evil and untrustworthy thoughts, but we all pretend to be “good.”

This is truth! You and I are not good people. We fall short everyday. Many of you might be hearing this truth for the first time, and I rejoice in this because “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). You no longer have to try so hard to live up to the world’s standards to be a “good person.” Even the things we do to try to be good, the days we count, and the things we say to try to stop our addiction, they all stem from selfish motives. Think about how many times you have helped someone or donated something because it not only helped the receiver, but it made you feel good too. God says in Isaiah 64:6 that all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. We do good things and say nice things, not so God can get the glory, but so we can be exalted and be seen as good people. How many times have you tried to change your thoughts? No matter how hard we try, our minds think what our hearts feel, and our hearts are sick and in need of healing.

There is still hope! When we humble ourselves, God is the One who lifts us up. There is only ONE type of addiction that will give you the freedom, peace of mind, healing, and joy that we all seek... (continue to the next page).

I Can Stop On My Own

So you truly believe you can stop your addiction on your own? Many people don’t understand that addiction lies deep within us, and it travels/shifts. When you are "cured" from one addiction, the likelihood of you acquiring another addiction is great. You stop being addicted to watching porn, but you’re still addicted to masturbating, or you become a workaholic. You stop being addicted to alcohol, but now you’re addicted to smoking, or to porn. Addiction comes from needing an outlet – a release of some sort, and a feeling of escape, even if only momentarily.
